Turtle Island (giclee print)
By (the late) Rex A. Begaye
The North East tribes refer to the North American landmass as "Turtle Island" which is symbolized in this piece. Surrounded by waterbird and Eagle feathers, talking about blessing and protection to the Earth. The tree of life sits in the center of the shell.
Rex's pointillism pieces were usually done to the beat of the powwow drum while he was in his booth listening and watching the dancing. The drum symbolizes the heartbeat of the earth, each dot is a beat of the drum.
